On February 13, 2025, Dr. Onoso Imoagene, Associate Professor of Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi, delivered a compelling talk for the IIH Speaker Series. In her presentation, “Structured Luck: Downstream Effects of the U.S. Diversity Visa Program,” Dr. Imoagene explored the far-reaching impacts of the Diversity Visa Program, with particular attention to West African immigrants. Drawing on her extensive research in international migration and race and ethnicity, she examined how global migration policies shape diverse communities and highlighted both the opportunities and challenges these programs create.
