Current IIH Fellow2024-2025 IIH Fellow, Ed.M. candidate, Harvard Graduate School of Education, IIH School Climate Perspectives Research Team
Daniel “Dae” Bui is an M.Ed. student in the Education Policy and Analysis program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. His research interests lie in understanding how immigrants become incorporated within their host communities and the implications of immigration policies on immigrant children and families.
Born in Oakland to two Vietnamese refugees, he has experienced the hardships faced by working-class households, communities of color, and refugees in the area. As a result, many aspects of his life have been shaped by government programs and initiatives, fueling his deep passion for exploring public policy and governance—particularly in areas regarding immigrant adjustment and socioeconomic mobility. Daniel is thrilled to join IIH this fall semester, where he hopes to conduct in-depth research into the impact of immigration policy on migrant children and their families and to identify best practices for addressing their unique needs.
Before joining IIH, Daniel served as a research assistant to Dr. Kristina Lovato at the Immigration and Child Welfare Lab at UC Berkeley and later to Dr. Harpreet Mangat at Berkeley’s Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative. Most recently, his work took him to the State Department, where he worked with a team of dedicated program officers at the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. Daniel is a proud alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley (Go Bears!) where he received his B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations.
